Bluebeam Tip: Capture Precise PDF Details with Bluebeam Snapshot

Need to capture a portion of a drawing, detail, or reference image without exporting an entire PDF page? Bluebeam Revu’s Snapshot tool creates a quick, high-quality PDF screenshot that can be pasted into another document, email, markup, or report.

To create a PDF screenshot, select Edit > Snapshot or use the keyboard shortcut G. Then click and drag around the exact area you want to capture. Revu automatically copies the selected content to your clipboard.

  • Paste into another PDF: Open the destination PDF and press Ctrl+V. The snapshot is inserted as an image markup that can be moved, resized, or placed beside a comment.
  • Create visual RFIs: Capture the relevant plan detail and paste it into an RFI form, then add callouts, clouds, and text boxes to clearly identify the question.
  • Document coordination issues: Use snapshots to show a specific conflict, missing detail, or design concern without requiring recipients to search through an entire drawing set.
  • Build closeout reports: Paste field-condition screenshots into a PDF report along with photos, status notes, and responsible-party information.
  • Preserve scale context: Include nearby dimensions, grid lines, room names, or drawing references in the captured area so reviewers immediately understand the location.

For the cleanest result, zoom in until the detail is easy to read before taking the snapshot. If you need a precise rectangular capture, use the crosshair cursor carefully and avoid including unnecessary surrounding content. After pasting, use the Properties panel to adjust opacity, position, and other visual settings.

A helpful workflow is to pair each pasted snapshot with a hyperlink or a reference to the source sheet and detail number. This keeps your communication concise while maintaining a clear path back to the original document.

Snapshot is particularly valuable for teams using Bluebeam Revu from NOVEDGE, where rapid visual communication can reduce review time and help project stakeholders make decisions with confidence.
