A well-built door and hardware tool set turns repetitive plan review into a faster, more consistent takeoff workflow in Bluebeam Revu from NOVEDGE. Instead of recreating symbols and labels on every project, create reusable tools that capture the details your team needs from the first click.
Start by identifying the most common door-related items in your drawings:
Create each item as a markup, then add useful information in the Properties panel. For example, assign a clear Subject such as “Door – Single,” “Door – Double,” or “Hardware – Card Reader.” Add a label or caption that identifies the door type, and use a consistent color system to distinguish new doors, existing doors, demolition, and items requiring review.
After formatting a markup, right-click it and select Add to Tool Chest. Save it to a dedicated tool set named “Doors & Hardware.” For tools used repeatedly, set them to Properties Mode so every placement retains the same appearance and data. Use Drawing Mode only for tools that need to preserve their exact geometry.
For more useful reporting, customize Markups List columns with fields such as:
Keep the tool set organized in a logical sequence: doors first, hardware next, then review and punch symbols. This makes it easier for estimators, architects, and field teams to select the correct tool quickly.
Finally, export and share the completed tool set with your team to standardize takeoffs across projects. A consistent library supports cleaner data, quicker quantity checks, and fewer interpretation errors.
