Bluebeam Tip: Bluebeam Revu Sticky Note Best Practices

Sticky Notes in Bluebeam Revu are ideal for clarifications that travel with the drawing. Use the tips below to keep conversations clear, searchable, and accountable across your team.

  • Place with purpose
    • Press N to activate the Note tool and click near the item in question. Keep notes close to the detail they reference to reduce ambiguity.
    • Enable Snap to Content when precision matters so notes align with geometry cleanly.
  • Standardize the metadata
    • Complete the Subject first (e.g., “MEP | RFI | Clarification”). This drives sorting, filtering, and reporting in the Markups List.
    • Right-click a well-formatted note > Add to Tool Chest to create reusable templates (e.g., “RFI Follow-up,” “Coordination Question”). Then Set as Default for consistent appearance.
  • Make context obvious
    • Assign notes to a dedicated layer (e.g., “Clarifications”) so you can toggle visibility by audience.
    • For critical items, set the Open property so the pop-up displays immediately when the sheet loads.
  • Drive accountability from the Markups List
    • Create Custom Columns: Assignee (Choice), Due Date (Date), Priority (Choice). Apply Statuses (Open, Needs Info, Resolved) with color mapping.
    • Filter by Subject, Status, or Assignee to generate clean task views. Export a PDF or CSV Summary for coordination meetings.
  • Keep the conversation in one thread
    • Use Reply on an existing note instead of dropping new notes. In Studio Sessions, replies are time-stamped and tied to the original context.
  • Link and close the loop
    • Right-click a note > Edit Action to hyperlink to details, specs, or RFIs.
    • When resolved, Flatten notes (allow unflatten) to lock outcomes while preserving metadata.
