Bluebeam Tip: Auto‑Numbered Revision Symbols and Standardized Tool Sets

Create custom revision symbols that auto-number and stay consistent across your drawing sets for faster, cleaner QA/QC.

  1. Build the delta (triangle) symbol:
    • Draw a Polygon with 3 sides; set Fill: None, Line Color/Weight to your standard (e.g., red, 1.5–2.0 pt).
    • Add a Text Box, center it inside the triangle; set font/size/bold for visibility.
    • Select both, use alignment tools to center, then Group (Ctrl+G).
    • Right-click the group > Add to Tool Chest > choose your “Revisions” tool set (create one if needed).
  2. Turn it into an auto-incrementing Sequence:
    • In the Tool Chest, right-click your new tool > Sequence > Define.
    • Set Start: 1, Increment: 1; add a Prefix/Suffix if desired (e.g., “Δ” or “R”).
    • Choose formatting options (leading zeros, page/document scope) and click OK.
    • Each placement now auto-updates the number centered in the triangle.
  3. Standardize properties for tracking:
    • Set Subject: Revision; add a Layer named “Revisions” and assign the tool to it.
    • Open the Markups List > Manage Columns > add Custom Columns such as Rev#, Reason, By, Date.
    • Use Status to drive workflows (Issued, Reviewed, Approved, As-Built).
  4. Optional: Cloud + label combo
    • Create a Cloud tool with your revision color/weight; enable its Label and convert it to a Sequence for quick numbered clouds.
    • Add both Delta and Cloud tools to a “Revisions” tool set for comprehensive markups.
  5. Share and preserve:
    • Right-click the tool set > Export to share (.btx) with your team.
    • In Properties, Set as Default to keep standards consistent on new sessions.
  • Create color/lineweight variants for different disciplines within the same tool set.
  • Add a Markup Legend so stakeholders can decode symbols instantly.
