Locating Components in Models
KOMPAS-3D V15 provides users with two new ways to place components in models:
By coordinates — components can be set in the model by indicating the position and the orientation of its coordinate system with respect to the model's coordinate system
By mates — components can be positioned in models through mates
KOMPAS-3D V15 offers a new way to select objects quickly based on their position relative to zones. A zone is a specified volume in the model space, which reduces the time to search large, complex models. Users can select components that are either inside a zone, outside of it, or that intersect a zone.
Modeless Model Sections
KOMPAS-3D V15 now displays model sections without user needing to undertake sectioning or slicing operations.
KOMPAS-3D V15 improves the fillet operation so that users can terminate fillets at arbitrary points along the edge being filleted.
Layer Groups in 3D
KOMPAS-3D V15 now lets users create groups of layers, as well as groups of layer filters in 3D space.
KOMPAS-3D V15 now lets users specify thread standards during construction, along with standard parameters such as the nominal diameter and step. The list of thread standards for creating conventional thread designs and rounds hole is expanded.
A new feature changes the actual dimensions of the pin or hole to meet the thread standard specified. Another new feature allows users to copy parameters from the master thread to the current cosmetic (conditional) threads.
KOMPAS-3D V15 now places linear dimensions of circle diameter, as well as place dimensions symmetrical on the centerline.
Model Orientation Control
KOMPAS-3D V15 replaces the coordinate system icon (found in the bottom left corner of the model window) with a new model orientation control.
KOMPAS-3D V15 displays icons for indicating modes in the model window. Icons that indicate the current mode — such as sketch, context model editing, editing settings — are displayed in the top right corner of the window, while the demo mode icon is shown in the bottom right corner of the window.
2D/3D PDF file format export
KOMPAS-3D V15 now exports 3D models and 2D drawings in PDF format.

Support for 64-bit Operating Systems
KOMPAS-3D V15 now supports 64-bit hardware and operating systems. This means that KOMPAS-3D V15 now accesses as much RAM as is in the computers of users. The larger memory means that they can load and work with larger and more complicated assemblies.
Improvements to 3D Solid and Surface Modeling
KOMPAS-3D V15 has the new ability to arbitrarily edit the shapes of faces on bodies and surfaces. After users execute the new Spline Form command, the selected face transforms into a spline surface, and KOMPAS-3D V15 switches to a special operation mode automatically.
Faster View Generation
If the computers of users employ multi-core processors with 8GB or more RAM, then creating and rebuilding associative views runs faster due to the addition of parallel processing. The Parameters dialog box lets users select the CPU processing method.
The Special Print command is useful for printers that support multiple page sizes. For instance, users can now send a multi-page document containing pages of different sizes to a virtual XPS printer. The result is a single XPS file with the size of each page fitting the paper size of the output document.
Better Import and Export
To improve handling of translated models, KOMPAS-3D V15 now has an option to import arcs and polylines from STEP files, as well as to export these objects back to STEP files. To more easily translate models, users can now use the same parameters for importing models from STEP as for exporting them to the same format.
KOMPAS-3D V15 is intended for creating three-dimensional associative models for individual parts and assembly units containing both original and standardized structural elements. The parametric technology allows quickly obtaining models for typical products basing on a once designed prototype. Numerous service functions facilitate solving auxiliary designing and production maintenance problems.
A key feature of KOMPAS-3D V15 is the use of its own mathematical core and parametric technologies developed by ASCON specialists.
The basic problem being solved by the system is the modelling of products in order to considerably reduce the period of their designing and launch them into production as fast as possible. These purposes being reached by means of the following features:
Fast creating of engineering and design documentation, necessary for production output (assembly drawings, BOM, detail drawings etc.)
Translating geometry into design applications
Translating geometry into control-program development kits for NC-controlled equipment
Creating additional images (for example, for catalogue creation, for creating of illustrations of manuals etc.)
The model export/import tools (KOMPAS-3D supports IGES, SAT, XT, STEP, VRML formats) provide functioning of complexes containing various CAD/CAM/CAE systems.
The product modelling in KOMPAS-3D V15 can be carried out by various methods, namely: down-top modelling (using finished components), top-down modelling (designing components in the context of a specific design), modelling based on a layout outline drawing (for example, on a kinematic diagram) or a combination of modelling methods. Such ideology provides obtaining easily modifiable associative models.
