Not ready for releaseDave GilbertThursday, October 19, 2017My company just purchased two seats of Twinmotion 2018 based on a favorable trial run, but have found that it is seriously lacking in features and stability when implemented on a real project.

Our company has been using Lumion 7.5 for rendering and animation, and Unity 2017 for virtual reality. Our main reason for purchasing TM 2018 was to have a more efficient workflow for VR projects, and TM’s use of Unreal Engine seemed like the perfect solution.

While they are off to a good start, the software is nowhere near ready for release as a finished product. They claim support for the HTC Vive, but incredibly they do not yet support the Vive controllers. During our trial, we figured out that we could use Xbox controllers to teleport, but we have to reposition our Lighthouses to achieve a somewhat normal eye height, since there is no eye height adjustment in the software yet.

Another issue - my VR files kept crashing on export, and TM’s response was:

“This issue is a known bug that appears when you export the bimmotion when you have a ies light / spot light / streetlight / vehicle path (headlights) ... in your file.”

Well, that‘s a pretty big bug, and makes the software useless to us until the bug is fixed.

Since this is a brand new program based on Unreal Engine, they had to postpone development of some features that were present in their last release such as orthographic views and two-point perspective. Not surprisingly, many current TM users are upset. OK, we all understand that starting a new program from scratch is a big deal, and is bound to have many challenges. But why on earth would they release something that is so obviously unfinished? It is unconscionable for them to accept money for software that is still in alpha testing.

The only thing I can imagine is that they rushed this to market to have a plug-and-play VR solution before Lumion. Their poor judgement on this decision will cost them even more of their meager market share in the long run as users avoid or abandon them in favor of other solutions that actually work.

If anyone is still interested in purchasing this software, do yourself a favor and spend some time on the Abvent Twinmotion forums to get a feel for how many other necessary features are missing or just don’t work. People are outraged, and for good reason.

ItDan ThirySaturday, October 14, 2017Dude, how can you not have zbrush. Whether you are a hobbyist or a professional, Zbrush is just a fantastic program with great response time from their customer service line. The community is also quite helpful and plenty of people use it. There is an abundant amount of resources that any new user will be able to learn the program quickly.

It's versatile from creating 3D models to creating detailed displacement maps for low poly models. I want to make it a 5 star review, but I think it would be rad if they added a VR plug-in. ;P

The Closest To Traditional Pencil And PaperRudolph AgrestaMonday, August 28, 2017As a 2D animator and educator, TV Paint, in my opinion is the best digital based program to teach and easily demonstrate the nuances of traditional hand drawn animation. It is also a super program for fully and completely rendering your film without the need of Photoshop and the like for producing your artwork that would need to be scanned and imported into an animation program; however, if the latter is your preferred method of operation, TV Paint can be utilized in just that fashion. Awesome and highly recommended!Review Product10002

A fantastic program at a great priceChristopher DielTuesday, May 23, 2017Zbrush is vital for anyone doing CGI work for games or film, anyone looking to do 3D print sculpting or illustrators looking to incorporate 3D renders into their work. It is worth the normal price but the student pricing is a fantastic discount on a must have program. Fantastic all around!Review Product3601
Rhino: so-so; Grasshopper - Phenomenal!Peter TaylorMonday, April 24, 2017It's all about grasshopper, kangaroo, and galapagos.

As someone used to parametric modelling in Inventor, rhino feels like a significant step backwards. Sure it's got way more useful surface and spline modelling tools, but it just feels klunky and limited. For instance, fillets need to be done in a specific order (large to small) in order to not break your model! Once a small fillet is applied, you'd need to revert to a save prior to the small fillet in order to apply a larger fillet to a touching edge. Lunacy :-(

However, if you model (or import) geometry, and apply interesting things in Grasshopper, there is significant power. Grasshopper has blown my mind. It's not perfect, but it's incredibly powerful, and fairly fast to use. I wish there was better documentation on all the various functions. Perhaps one day soon there will be.

TL;DR
Buy rhino only to get access to grasshopper and it's plugins.

Tasty!Steven HallMonday, April 10, 2017First off, I love this stuff. I often double-dip this stuff while at breakfast by the pool... oh wait, I'm thinking of Hawaiian POI! What I like about MOI is that it's name is synonymous with it's utility. I've literally had an idea and jumped in the poi just to get an idea out of my head! I'd like it to be able to resolve intersections and ensuring I'm working with solids and not surfaces at times, but for the most part it'll get every job done.Review Product2985
