Bluebeam Tip: Creating and Managing PDF Prefaces in Bluebeam Revu for Enhanced Document Professionalism

Enhance your PDF documents by creating and managing prefaces using Bluebeam Revu. A well-crafted preface adds professionalism and context, helping readers understand the purpose and content of your document from the outset.

Follow these steps to create and manage a PDF preface:

  1. Insert a Blank Page for the Preface:
    • Go to Document > Pages > Insert Page.
    • Choose Blank Page and set the desired page size and orientation.
    • Select Before to insert the page at the beginning of the document.
  2. Add Preface Content:
    • Use the Text Box tool by clicking Tools > Markup > Text > Text Box.
    • Click and drag on the blank page to create a text box.
    • Type in your preface content, including introductions, acknowledgments, or any pertinent information.
  3. Format the Preface:
    • Customize font style, size, and color using the Properties panel.
    • Align text and adjust line spacing for better readability.
  4. Add Bookmarks for Easy Navigation:
    • Open the Bookmarks tab on the left panel.
    • Click the Add Bookmark icon to create a bookmark for the preface page.
    • Name the bookmark "Preface" to help users navigate quickly.
  5. Update the Table of Contents (If Applicable):
    • If your document includes a table of contents, ensure it reflects the new preface page.
    • Manually adjust page numbers or use Bluebeam's automation features to update links.

By incorporating a preface, you set clear expectations and provide valuable context, enhancing your document's impact. Regularly updating and managing your preface ensures that readers always have the most relevant information.
